Senior Cloud and AI Infrastructure Solutions Specialist, Intel, Munich

The question is not whether to adopt AI. It is what the infrastructure underneath it costs.

Enterprise, government and OEMs across EMEA

Sixteen years turning infrastructure decisions into commercial ones

At Intel I lead datacenter transformation and private and hybrid cloud architecture work for tens of enterprise and government customers, and for OEMs, across EMEA. The work covers compute and software defined storage: which CPU, which accelerator, which storage backend, and what each choice costs once the pilot ends.

Before Intel, six years at Dell EMC, first as a level two support engineer on enterprise storage, then as a solutions architect. That period taught me how infrastructure fails in production, which is a different education from how it behaves on a slide.

A decade modelling what migration actually costs

Doctorate in IT Systems Engineering at the Hasso-Plattner Institute under Professor Christoph Meinel. The thesis uses machine learning to model and predict the overhead of live migration: moving a running virtual machine from one server to another without switching it off.

  1. Copy while running. Memory is copied to the new server while the machine keeps working.
  2. Copy what changed. Pages written in the meantime are copied again, round after round.
  3. Pause and switch. A short pause copies the last pages, and the machine resumes on the new server.

Every round costs time, network traffic and, at the end, a pause. That overhead is what the research models and predicts.

Live migration: a running virtual machine's memory is copied from server A to server B in rounds, then the machine moves to server B.
